Description
Megan Waddell, Savvy Schwartz and Michelle Schwartz talked about Pedal the Cause, where the proceeds go and how people can donate.
Curebound, a San Diego-based 501(c)(3) philanthropic organization that raises and invests strategic funding in translational cancer research projects, hosted its signature event, Padres Pedal the Cause, on Saturday, March 18th, and is now in the final stretch for fundraising.
Fundraising will continue through April 18th with a goal to surpass last year’s record-breaking raise of $3.2 million, all of which will benefit transformative cancer research in San Diego. The community is invited to come together in the fight against cancer for one of southern California’s largest stand-alone cancer fundraising events.
One hundred percent of every dollar raised from this event funds lifesaving, collaborative cancer research between Curebound’s six institutional research partners: Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health, Salk Institute, Sanford Burnham Prebys, Rady Children’s Hospital, La Jolla Institute for Immunology, and Scripps Research.

Savvy’s story
Savannah was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma back in 2018 at the age of 2.5 years old. Medulloblastoma is a solid tumor in the brain and/or spine.
Five years later, after a brain surgery and on-going chemotherapy, Savannah continues to fight to reduce the remaining tumors.
One of the collaborative Discovery Grants funded by Padres Pedal the Cause went to genomic sequencing on her tumor to find targeted drugs specific to her DNA treatment of her cancer.
Savvy’s team, Team Bumble Bee, participated in Padres Pedal the Cause and raised $50,000 this year
