Description
Tuesday started off dry and on the warmer side of average for overnight lows as clouds stream in. Low clouds led to minor fog development west of the mountains and high clouds continued to stream in through the morning. This set the stage for light rain this afternoon. Most rainfall totals were under 0.10".
But this 'atmospheric river' event is just getting started. This system is sending heavier rain and mountain snow to Northern and Central California before weakening over Southern California.
While we can expect a 'weaker' version of this storm, it is still expected to bring quite an impact. Rain accumulation models have trended upwards, meaning more rain is expected as the storm nears. We could see 1 - 2" of rain, west of the mountains with up to 2 - 4" for the mountains.
Expect moderate to heavy rain and strong winds from late Tuesday through Wednesday morning. The best window for moderate to heavy rain will be 12:00am to 12:00pm on Wednesday. There is still chance for rain past noon on Wednesday, but it will be scattered and lighter compared to earlier in the day.
