Nearly 100,000 people in San Diego county are living with Alzheimer's Disease, and a promising national trial is taking place right here in San Diego, and at more than 20 other sites across the country.
It involves a new drug, varoglutamstat, and local doctors are looking for participants.
CBS 8's Marcella Lee, whose mother has Alzheimer's Disease, gives a closer look at the new study.
Here's her interview with Dr. Stephanie Lessig, a neurologist at UC San Diego, and Dr. Gilbert Ho, a neurologist at Pacific Center for Neurological Disease in Poway and Carlsbad, who share information about this clinical trial.
