Future California governor and United States President Ronald Reagan was in San Diego for a speaking engagement. In 1962 he told Sun Up San Diego host Bob Mills he still considered himself an actor “as long as I can still get acting jobs” he mused. They discussed his affiliation with General Electric and that he publicly backed President Richard Nixon’s campaign. Mills asked about it because he said it was unusual for an actor of his stature to do that. Mr. Reagan laughed and pointed out that “Frank Sinatra and the boys were over on the other side for the other candidate.” He of course was referring to President John F. Kennedy. This is a fantastic glimpse into the mind of the future president as he was contemplating his future.
