Description
November 14, 1964
The Dave Clark Five, Britain’s most popular rock and roll recording stars, invaded San Diego today. But this was what might be termed the lull before the storm. Complete secrecy kept their welcoming down to a minimum number. The popular group was brought immediately to the TV 8 studios where sponsors of their San Diego concert invited more than one hundred high school newspaper editors for an exclusive news conference. The students will write their impressions and answers to questions in forthcoming publications. This visit by the singing group is one stop in a 50-day nationwide tour. They’ll be seen and, perhaps, heard when they appear this evening at Westgate Park. Teen reporters were most interested in the group’s hair styles and what effort it took to keep them that way.
There is another copy of this clip on our YouTube page. It was digitized many years ago and the quality isn’t nearly as good as this one. I was planning to get the concert digitized for the first time but unfortunately, the film reel wasn’t in the canister. Hopefully it will surface. Perhaps it’s stashed somewhere with Elvis 1956, Beatles 1965 and the Rolling Stones December 1965—sadly, all missing.
