Urban Corps of San Diego County, Port of San Diego, CAL FIRE and Tree San Diego hosted a free tree planting event to give residents an opportunity to increase the beauty of the park and expand the urban forest. Urban Corps was awarded funding from CAL FIRE's Urban and Community Forestry's Urban Forest Expansion and Improvement grant to plant trees in communities that need to expand their tree canopy. Twenty new trees were planted in Barrio Logan at the Port of San Diego's Cesar Chavez Park.
