September 1989 San Diego's Clairemont High School’s class of 1979 was celebrating their 10th reunion. Lorraine Kimel and photojournalist Rick Corcoran attended their festivities. Why did we cover their reunion? Because they were the inspiration for the iconic film Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Director/writer Cameron Crowe went undercover as a student in the late 1970s when he was 22 years old. In this story we meet the students and teachers—including one who said pizza deliveries really did happen. And some said Mr. Kay was the inspiration for Mr. Hand.
