September 27, 1977 Danny Kaye was an actor, comedian, singer and dancer. He met the San Diego press at the Westgate Hotel to discuss his upcoming stint as guest conductor of the San Diego Symphony’s golden anniversary season. He had conducted more than 50 symphony concerts in 25 years. He did it to raise money for orchestra pension funds. He told the press they had enough material and asked to turn their cameras off. Reporter Jonathan Dunn-Rankin said true to his word, he talked to them for 45 minutes.
