November 22, 1979 Spectacular views of the La Jolla Cove were on the menu for diners at the Sky Room Restaurant at the La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla, California. It was a cozy intimate dining space with only nine tables when our Unknown Eater visited in 1979. Throughout its long history, many celebrities dined there—Gregory Peck, a La Jolla native, Audrey Hepburn, Greta Garbo, Tennessee Williams, Bob Hope, and Groucho Marx. It’s hard to believe that even in 1979 $14.50 was considered pricey for a pre fixe four course meal. Erik Sorenson, the Unknown Eater, was impressed with the fancy fare.
