March 15, 1974
Newly digitized. The Prince of Wales stepped out into society tonight…Prince Charles, age 25, was one of the invited guests aboard the Canadian ships Gatino and Carinon. Tied up at the foot of Broadway, the first man to greet the prince and officers of the British frigate H.M.S Jupiter and invited civilian and military dignitaries, was Rear Admiral R. John Pickford, Commander of Maritime Forces, Pacific of the Canadian Armed Forces…thus far it has been one of the prince’s rare public appearances since his arrival aboard the Jupiter. He serves as the frigate’s communications officer holding the rank of lieutenant in Britain’s Royal Navy. The ship is here for a week-long goodwill visit. There were no special ceremonies for the arrival of the prince…that at the request of Buckingham Palace.
