Description
July 2, 1967
A huge banner was stretched across the street, flags waved and even a red carpet was rolled out on Aranda Street in La Jolla. The reason…Navy Lieutenant Junior Grade Newell Bossart was returning from a year’s duty in Vietnam. Children from the block formed an honor guard and paraded Bossart to the front of his home at 6652 Aranda where the party was held. While in Vietnam Bossart served aboard a patrol boat which shot out of the water by the Viet Cong. After the party the returning hero was escorted up a red carpet leading to his home. He is the son of Convair’s Karel Bossart, “father of the Atlas Missile.”
