Description
News 8 Throwback | July 3, 1976
When the sun went down this evening, the Star of India was still a floating museum. But tomorrow, for a few hours, the Star will be what she was built to be 113 years ago—a proud and glorious sailing ship.
When the Star casts off from her moorings at the Embarcadero, she will be setting sail for the first time in 50 years. Of course, she won’t go far, just up the coast toward La Jolla and back, but no matter hundreds of people, many of them experienced sailors volunteered to help on that voyage.
The forty lucky ones chosen to sail her tomorrow have been practicing for several weeks, and on the eve of their departure they seem confident they can do it.
