June 26, 1988 It's a totally awesome flashback to the 80s!! One of San Diego's hottest bands--then--and now--The Mar Dels entertained the crowds at the Ocean Beach Street Fair. Always retro, the band performed "Respect" and everyone was grooving to the beat. Front man and original member Doug Allen (thumbnail photo) shares a memory about this performance: We played to huge crowds that day; the whole block was dancing. We thought, “Let’s book a gig at Winston’s, now that all of OB likes us!”. We booked a Thursday night, two weeks after the street fair: nobody came! It was so empty that we packed up & went home halfway through the night!
