September 4, 1958 More than fifty newsmen from throughout the west were guests of The Fiesta del Pacifico. The newsmen landed at North Island Naval Air Station where they were greeted by Admiral Hartman, Mayor Dail, Fiesta president George A. Scott, A.J. Sutherland, and Channel 8 Vice President George Whitney. Among the guests, William S. Dozier, CBS vice president. First order of business was the televising of Art Linkletter’s ‘House Party’ from aboard the flight deck of the carrier Kearsarge. Linkletter is here for the fiesta and is doing his nationally televised CBS shows from several scenic points around San Diego. One of the highlights of the show was the appearance with Linkletter of veteran channel swimmer Florence Chadwick. Florence swam alongside the carrier, and she’ll make a repeat performance on next Monday’s show at the Kona Kai. Someone had neglected to untie the one side of the copter. The pilot quickly cut his power, dropped back to the deck, the tie was loosened, and takeoff was completed.
