Description
September 30, 1958
The only reason this was digitized because the film reel simply said 'traffic.' I assumed it would show cool cars stuck in a traffic jam. I have since learned that accidents were often labeled "traffic."
But really, anything from the 1950s is neat to see. Note the Anthony's sign, Caliente, Lucky Lager truck et al. And it's interesting how they gave out addresses of anyone on the news. Thankfully we haven't done that in a very long time.
A freak accident involving a trailer-truck, car and bus occurred Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Pacific Highway and Laurel Street. Somehow no one was injured but all three vehicles were damaged. The trailer truck carrying a half dozen metal light poles was struck in the rear by a car which sent one of the poles through the car’s windshield and into an oncoming bus.
Car driver John Torres of 1931 Wilson Street, National City and bus driver, Wayne Hinchclifff, 288 Broad Street, Chula Vista, were both surprised about the fast moving pole. Truck driver John Gomes of 527 South 46th Street was most surprised of all. His pole was returned.
