Description
Haydee Brazeal and Alli Mercer from The Rock Church talked about all the fun things they have scheduled for this summer.
On Thursday, June 17, the Rock Church kicks off its summer activities with the Summer is Ours block party. The events will continue from June to August with different themes and activities that are open to the San Diego community.
The average San Diego student receives 10-11 weeks of summer break. According to US Bureau of Labor statistics about 86 percent of fathers work full time and about 48 percent of mothers work full time, during the summer and the school year. For the average family, their work schedule does not change during the summer, leaving many families trying to find activities for their children to get involved in. The Rock Church is coordinating several different events and activities for children, youth and families as an outlet to connect with others, serve their community and learn more about God.
The events will kick off with the Summer is Ours Block party, which is a collaboration between 18 San Diego churches to give San Diego youth an opportunity to meet new friends and have fun throughout the summer. The first event is June 17 with a block party featuring a basketball tournament, rock climbing and glow in the dark worship experience. It will continue for 7 weeks meeting every Friday at various locations throughout San Diego.
In addition to the block party, the Rock Church will host a variety of events and activities geared for children, youth and families including community service opportunities. The hope is that by providing a variety of activities and service opportunities that the San Diego community will come together.
