Description
On Monday, the Burien City Council passed an emergency ordinance that bans camping or residing on public property at all times, "without any prerequisites to enforcement."
Ordinance No. 864 was approved with a 5-2 vote and expands on previous restrictions set in place.
Under the revised law, there is no requirement that beds, housing, shelter or treatment is available or offered before enforcement. However, law enforcement can still offer alternatives and, if accepted, the person would avoid being arrested unless they continue to illegally camp on public property.
