Description
Shirley Miller was sitting in the passenger seat of her blue Subaru on Friday as her husband drove northbound on Interstate 5. As they drove under an overpass in Tukwila, a black SUV fell onto the roadway right in front of them.
Miller said she is grateful to be alive.
"A lot of fear and I remember I looked at it, starting to go over and I yelled, 'No!'" said 82-year-old Miller. “I'm very grateful of being alive and that my Subaru gave up his life to save mine. With all those airbags going off."
While still recovering from her injuries, and the shock, she's sharing her story just one day after the deadly crash.
The falling SUV caused multiple vehicles to collide on the freeway below on Friday morning. Police arrested the 30-year-old alleged driver of the SUV after he ran from the scene; he was expected to make his first court appearance on Saturday afternoon, but waived his right to appear in court.
