Description
Only 22 miles across the Strait of Juan de Fuca separate Port Angeles from Victoria, B.C., but the two countries are now divided by a deep political gulf.
On Thursday, the Black Ball ferry returned to service, docking in Port Angeles as it has done since 1959.
There to greet passengers were about 200 Americans clad in Canadian clothing, holding signs of gratitude and cheering them on.
It was a welcome back celebration to Canadian travelers, after a bit of a falling out in recent weeks.
"We're here to send a message that America does stand with Canada," said American Aime'e Bradley.
Tensions and tempers have flared since President Donald Trump suggested Canada become America's 51st state and threatened tariffs on Canadian goods.
