Description
Child welfare advocates demanded action on Tuesday afternoon at the Washington state capitol after a growing number of deaths and near deaths of children under CPS supervision.
Approximately 100 foster parents, court-appointed child advocates and families, like Danette and John Scott, gathered in Olympia to speak out against a law they say is harming children.
“She was the sweetest little baby ever, she should have been able to live and grow up with her big sisters,” said Danette Scott, whose granddaughter Avril Hope died in 2023 of a fentanyl overdose shortly after she called CPS.
“So tell me it’s not killing them because I have custody of my two older granddaughters who are 15 and 17 and healthy and now I don’t ever get to see the baby,” said Danette Scott.
