Description
It could become harder for suspects who run from police to get out of jail.
House Bill 1532 would force judges to treat offenders facing eluding charges as public safety threats, potentially subject to higher bail amounts.
Also included in the legislation, if a judge were to order that offender held on no bail, or a bail amount below what prosecutors have asked for, the judge would need to issue an explanation in writing.
“It's trying to make it more difficult for a judge to let those type of suspects out without restrictions,” said the bill’s prime sponsor, Rep. Lauren Davis (D-Shoreline).
”It's just trying to create an a mechanism for judicial accountability and, frankly, public transparency, because the public, my constituents are sick of it,” said Davis.
