Schools across Washington are on alert following an executive order from President Donald Trump that allows federal immigration authorities to conduct enforcement in schools and churches — locations previously deemed "sensitive" under a long-standing policy.
In response, Washington State Superintendent Chris Reykdal issued a 13-page guidance document to school districts statewide, detailing steps schools should take if approached by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“Schools should not be the place where immigration law is enforced,” said Reykdal.
