Description
The Seahawks will start the season this Sunday against the Denver Broncos with a new head coach, Mike Macdonald.
“It’s going to be a new environment, a new team,” Terry Hollimon said. “A lot of the same old guys are going to be here, but there’s going to be a new philosophy, a new way of doing things.”
All pre-season cuts have been made, and the 53-man roster is set ahead of Sunday’s 1:05 p.m. game.
“As the season progresses and maybe we see some things that aren’t working or some guys are getting injured and they need some depth at other positions, then they’ll bring in some other people,” Hollimon said.
Outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu injured his knee in the preseason finale game, but the Seahawks elected to keep him off injured reserve.
“They expect him to be back pretty soon,” Hollimon said. “They expect him to be back in the month of September, if not game one. He’s still listed as the number one guy on the depth chart.”
Hollimon says the Seahawks also hope to have offensive tackle Abraham Lucas back from injury in the first few weeks.
New head coach Mike Macdonald served as defensive coordinator for both the Baltimore Ravens and Michigan Wolverines. His first game as head coach will start a new era for the Seahawks.
“Last season In Baltimore, he crafted one of the best defenses in the National Football League,” Hollimon said. “He’s thought of as one of the young geniuses in the game of football right now.”
The Broncos are coming off an 8-9 record last season and will look to start this year off better with rookie quarterback Bo Nix.
“Any time you’re starting over with a brand new quarterback, it’s going to be tough,” Hollimon said. “Particularly when you’re starting with a rookie quarterback, it’s even tougher.”
Hollimon expects the Seahawks to have a good game against the Broncos and do well the rest of the season too.
“I’m looking forward to this season,” he said. “The Hawks are going to do better than people expect. I’m telling you now.”
