The Mount Vernon School District canceled its first day of school Wednesday after not yet reaching an agreement with its paraeducators union. “We want to express our appreciation for the collaborative spirit and dedication shown by both the PSE 1 Union Group and our administrative team throughout the bargaining process,” the district posted online Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 27. “While we were hopeful to reach an agreement today, we have not yet been able to do so.” On Wednesday, which was supposed to be the first day of school, paraeducators will picket outside of the MVSD officers, according to a news release from the Mount Vernon School District paraeducators union.
