Description
Due to capacity constraints, leaders of the only overnight shelter for young adults on the eastside said they are too often having to turn people away, and that’s especially the case during severe weather.
But in less than a week, the 72-year-old nonprofit Friends of Youth will move into a new, 8,000 square foot space -- more than double the size. Friends of Youth officially moves to nearby Kirkland under the moniker Willows Youth Services Center Monday, Jan. 22.
On average, 192 people have been seeking overnight shelter services from Friends of Youth each year. But the shelter only had the capacity to fill 15 beds at a time.
