Description
To accommodate a growing population Washington, officials estimate the state will need more than 1 million new housing units by 2044. That’s why the governor signed a bill for more “middle housing" affordable for people of all walks of life.
Now cities like Shoreline are grappling with how to provide for that so-called “missing middle."
The Shoreline City Council continued discussions at their regular board meeting Monday about whether to use several thousand in state grant funding to make way something called cottage housing.
Shoreline city officials say most households here in the city-- 61% -- have only one or two people living in them. By allowing for cottage housing complexes, Mayor Keith Scully and the city council are trying to figure out how to maximize their use of land.
