The Lighthouse for the Blind has provided support for people who are blind since 1918. The nonprofit creates opportunities for independence and self-sufficiency for people who are blind, DeafBlind, and blind with other disabilities. President and CEO George Abbott said providing “resources and hope” is a big part of what makes the organization so important. “I think people would be surprised to know that we have a world-class manufacturing operation and that blind people can operate quite a bit of complicated machinery and do it just as successfully, if not more successfully, than their sighted peers,” said Abbott.
