Description
The first couple days of February have been unusually quiet with mild temperatures, dry weather, sunshine, and light winds. That quickly changed Friday as a frontal system brings widespread lowland rain, mountain snow, and strong gusty winds.
The Seattle National Weather Service issued a High Wind Warning and Wind Advisory for parts of western Washington where winds could gust upwards of 45 to 60 mph within the wind alerts.
High Wind Warning
The High Wind Warning went into effect Friday at 4 a.m. and continues until 7 p.m. for the north coast. It kicked into effect at 10 a.m. Friday for western Whatcom County and San Juan County. Within the High Wind Warning, southern winds are expected to be sustained at 30 to 40 mph with damaging gusts up to 60 mph. Winds this strong could cause tree damage and lead to power outages along with minor structure damage to outbuildings. Winds this strong will also make travel difficult on east to west roadways so be cautious if driving high profile vehicles.
