Description
Interstate 5 remains closed in both directions in Olympia following a carjacking, standoff and confrontation that led to one man being shot by police.
Aerial footage showed the man climbing out of the cab of the semi-truck and running at police before falling to the ground. He was taken away in an ambulance.
Reporter Drew Mikkelsen reported hearing several loud bangs, as well as police giving the man several commands as he exited the semi-truck.
Details about the man's condition were not immediately disclosed.
The incident started sometime before 2 p.m., when a pedestrian carjacked a semi-truck and rolled it, according to Washington State Trooper Robert Reyer.
WSDOT Tacoma tweeted that all lanes of I-5 are blocked due to the incident. A state trooper said the freeway could be shut down for several hours.
The carjacker refused to exit the semi and state patrol tried to negotiate with him. He was reportedly armed with a hammer.
A number of cars were also struck by the semi. The driver of the semi-truck is OK and did not suffer any injuries.
Drivers should expect delays.
