Description
The intricately handmade kofia cap traditionally worn by men in Comoros, with its distinct designs specific to the island, is now under threat from Chinese mass production. With an original headdress costing up to 400 euros, the much cheaper 15 euro version made in China is gaining popularity, but for some there is much more at stake then the economy. "Our most valuable asset is our heritage." says traditional kofia maker Maissara Mhadjou."A heritage can't just disappear." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES ARRANGED IN SEQUENCES N°37BE2G8
