Description
French prosecutors have requested that a man who burned his 31-year-old wife alive be sentenced to life imprisonment, with a mandatory minimum sentence of 22 years. Chahinez Daoud was burned alive in front of her home in 2021 in Mérignac (near Bordeaux) by her husband, Mounir Boutaa, whose "ongoing and probably long-lasting" "extreme dangerousness," Julien Plouton, the Daoud family's lawyer, makes a point to highlight. In 2021, the French-Algerian man stalked his Algerian-born wife following their separation, and even bought a van he parked outside her house which he used to watch her. On May 4 of that year, Boutaa, now 48, shot her in both legs, poured petrol on her and set her on fire. She was a mother of three. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
