Description
"La Posada Alemana", a luxury hotel built in the 1980s and previously owned by German-Colombian former drug lord Carlos Lehder, was a symbol of how powerful drug trafficking had become in this region of west-central Colombia.
The building, now in ruins, belongs to the department of Quindio, which wants to turn it into a tourist attraction.
Carlos Lehder was "one of the most important drug traffickers", explains historian Miguel Rojas, adding that his former property is seen as an "icon" of drug trafficking in Colombia.
Lehder, 75, is currently in custody after returning to Colombia until the courts settle his legal situation. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
