Bare-handed monks slowly pick away the rubble that was once the wall of a historic Buddhist monastery in Mandalay, its exposed side a searing reminder of the deadly earthquake that rocked the city five days ago. Nyo Nyo San was one of those inside the monastery when the quake struck. "Bricks were falling," she told AFP. "I felt like I was living in hell, and I ran to escape outside."
Mandalay has suffered some of the worst damage from the recent earthquake, flattening buildings and upending the lives of many of its more than 1.7 million residents. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
