Description
In Birmingham, strike action continues by council bin collection workers belonging to the Unite trade union. In one badly affected area, community members collaborate with the council to organise centralised collection sites where residents bring their own waste to load onto trucks staffed by non-striking workers. The industrial action, rooted in a pay dispute between the Unite union and Birmingham City Council, has been going on since January, but escalated to an all-out strike on March 11 and has recently prompted the council to declare it a "major incident".
