Description
The president of the main opposition party Democratic Party of Ivory Coast (PDCI), Tidjane Thiam, was absent from an important party meeting on Saturday for "major reasons". PDCI will elect its candidate for the October presidential election at a convention on April 16.
The convention date was set following the Saturday meeting of the PDCI's political bureau in Yamoussoukro. Backed by the party, Thiam is the favoured for the nomination. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
