In Lannemezan (Hautes-Pyrénées department, southwestern France), French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau pays tribute to Chief Brigadier Olivier Mariande, who died following a fatal fall during a rescue operation in the commune of Argounet in the French Pyrenees. "You died as you lived, moving resolutely toward danger, ignoring your fear, and dispelling the fear of others through the depth of your gaze," says Retailleau, after the rescuer and a stranded climber fell to their deaths on Monday, April 7.
