Description
June 18, 1969 There is a midnight madness peculiar to the coast of California. It’s the grunion run. Hundreds of San Diego residents and visitors were scouring the beaches looking for the elusive silver fish which come ashore in spring and summer—and only at night after the second high tide in the first four days following a new or full moon. TV 8 news cameraman John Sherman says most of the grunion catchers at South Mission Beach were under 16 and didn’t need fishing licenses. For older grunion fanciers the fee is 3 dollars. Scripps Aquarium expects another run the first three nights in July.
