Indian devotees mark the last day of the Bengali calendar with the Gajan festival. The Hindu festival is celebrated in honour of Shiva, one of the main deities of Hinduism.
Worshippers adorn their faces with red paint and engage in dancing rituals with skulls to pay homage to the Hindu god of destruction.
A 23-year-old devotee said that the worshippers conduct their rituals to "show their love, gratitude and their devotion". IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
