Description
Despite being masters of disguise, wood turtle populations have been decimated in Minnesota. They’re threatened by flooding and predators, and climate change doesn’t help, but locally there’s another issue: A history of commercial trapping that’s led to tens of thousands of turtles being plucked from waterways to be sold as food, medicines and pets in Asian markets.
Wednesday at 10, KARE 11’s Chris Hrapsky treks to an undisclosed, remote location with the Minnesota Zoo to learn more about what’s being done to save these turtles, and how your lottery tickets could help preserve the population.
