Description
A man was fatally shot by an Arlington police officer after the man shot and injured a woman at F.J. “Red” Kane Park in Arlington on June 9, 2024, police say. No officers were injured in the shooting, police say.
Police responded to the park in the 6500 block of S. Cooper Street around 10:30 p.m. Sunday to a reported disturbance involving a man, later identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office as Shannon Boyd, 42, of Irving and a 40-year-old woman who were dating, Sgt. Alex Rosado said at a press conference Monday.
"As officers were pulling up to the parking lot and exiting their patrol vehicles, the man displayed a handgun and fired multiple shots, striking the woman. The officers then immediately fired their service weapon, striking the man," Rosado said.
The number of shots fired is unclear.
Officers provided first aid to the woman and Boyd until paramedics arrived and transported both to local hospitals, where Boyd was pronounced dead, Rosado said.
The woman was listed in critical condition, but Rosado said she was reported to be alert and breathing.
Rosado said three officers were placed on paid administrative leave, and potentially a fourth who didn't fire a weapon.
