Description
Chatham County Police are calling it the "Georgetown Gator" as they captured an unwelcomed visitor in a neighborhood and released it into the wild on May 23, 2024.
The department posted a rather short edited version of bodycam video of the capture on Facebook, which has garnered well over 88,000 video plays.
As the video starts, you can see one of the police officers, Cpl. Blackledge, using a stick to get the gator's attention in the driveway of a Chatham County home.
"You want him tired out. You don't want to jump on him because he's got a bunch of spunk in him," Cpl. Blackledge said as he got the gator's attention.
Seconds later, the officer jumps onto the back of the gator, wrangling its mouth shut. Another officer, Cpl. Stapleton joins in, taping the alligator's mouth shut with green tape.
