Description
House Democratic Caucus Chair, Pete Aguilar, Calif., called for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's firing, as Rep. Jim Himes, Conn., Ranking Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and Ranking Member of House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Adam Smith, Wash., bashed the administration's handling of the Signal chat.
Top Democrats of committees of jurisdiction criticized Hegseth and Trump's security team for the Signal chat to discuss plans for an attack against Yemen's Houthi rebels and for the failure to communicate in proper channels.
Smith emphasized that after the administration's efforts to lessen criticism of senior national security officials using a Signal chat to communicate about airstrikes against Yemen's Houthis, the mission was not accomplished.
Smith asked, "Was the mission a spectacular success?"
"We don't even really know at this point. And this is an ongoing campaign," Smith said.
"Getting to the competence of the national security team, if they think the mission has been accomplished, then it appears they don't even know what the mission is."
