Description
Changes are being made to how heat alerts are relayed as part of the National Weather Service's Hazard Simplification project as we approach the warmer months of the year. Similar changes were made to winter weather alerts with Extreme Cold Watch and Warning products.
Previously, when weather conditions were dangerously hot, the National Weather Service issued "Excessive Heat Watch" and "Excessive Heat Warning." Heat alerts will be changed to "Extreme Heat Watch" and "Extreme Heat Warning" when weather conditions are dangerously hot.
