March 12 on The Story: Yesterday, we delved into some of the problems with Oregon's ongoing plan to reform public defense, set in motion back in 2023. Right now, the Oregon Legislature is considering how best to fix it, and the district attorneys for Multnomah and Washington counties — two of the most prominent counties for unrepresented defendants in the state — say they have a list of ideas that would immediately address the problem. We sat down with them both to hear what they're proposing; and we're taking a closer look at what lawmakers are considering so far.
