Oregon lawmakers are considering a bill that would prohibit local school districts from enacting “discriminatory” book bans, based on data showing that a majority of banned titles are either about people of color or the LGBTQ+ community. The issue remains heated at the local level; last week, a school board in Florence narrowly voted to remove a book from a high school library, even though the school principal and a review committee both approved it.
