Tina Kotek and Portland Mayor Keith Wilson announced a new effort to speed multifamily housing development in the state's most populous city, coinciding with the governor's push for new housing legislation. They met in a new workgroup meant to identify barriers and solve problems in order to boost housing construction in the city. It's a topic of major importance for Portland, where affordable housing is in short supply and the cost of living is implicated in the intractability of homelessness — making it difficult to help people keep or get back into housing after losing it.
