Description
Jan. 7 on The Story: As of Jan. 1, a new law has been in effect throughout Oregon. Using illegal drugs on public transit is now a Class A misdemeanor, which carries a maximum penalty of almost a year in jail, over $6000 in fines, or both. That's on top of the state's move to recriminalize simple drug possession at the beginning of September. TriMet officials held a press conference to welcome the new law Tuesday, joined by Multnomah County law enforcement officials. And we asked TriMet MAX riders about their opinions on the new law, earning a mixed response.
