Description
Dec. 11 on The Story: Already strapped for cash, the Oregon Department of Transportation's ongoing project to widen and seismically strengthen the Abernethy Bridge and I-205 is getting pricier and falling behind schedule. The latest news anticipates a 10-month delay and a $72 million price hike on the bridge part of the plan alone, raising the total to $815 million. More cost overruns are possible by the time construction wraps. Tolling on I-205 was supposed to help pay for the project, but with that off the table in the near-term, the agency has instead turned to bonding in order to plug the widening budget gap.
