Description
Dec. 10 on The Story: If you've lived in either the Portland or Medford metro areas, you're no doubt familiar with emissions testing. To register your vehicle at the DMV or renew that registration, you first need to pop by an emissions testing station operated by the Oregon DEQ and ensure that your vehicle is up to snuff for $20 to $25. These days, with cars getting cleaner and more efficient, failing the emissions test isn't all that common, and that's why Washington did away with its own emissions testing program in 2020. So, viewers have asked us, why is Oregon still making drivers jump through those hoops? Tonight, we're digging into the program, what it has accomplished and why it shows no signs of stopping.
