Description
The elephants at the Oregon Zoo took part in a fall tradition: the annual "Squishing of the Squash." They stomped and chomped on some extra large pumpkins from Larry Nelson and his daughter, Amanda Gilmour, who are members of the Pacific Giant Vegetable Growers Club.
The tradition has been going on since 1999. That's when Hoffman's Dairy Garden of Canby brought an award-winning 828 pound pumpkin to the zoo for the elephants to squash. The annual event helps farmers get rid of overstock while helping the zoo with animal enrichment.
